Event Manager etc.venues Marble Arch

This month we catch up with Rochelle McGregor, Events Manager at etc.venues Marble Arch.  Rochelle took time out to chat the week before our newest venue opened in the West End, and although busy she was obviously looking forward to the challenge.

I’m one of those rare breed of people –a real Londoner!  I currently live in Hackney in East London with my family, and I’m the youngest of three (1 brother and 1 sister).

In my spare time, I’m a big fan of spinning,  I love its stress busting qualities as well as burning off calories which is just as well as like most of us here at etc.venues, I’m obsessed with food. One of the many benefits of living in the centre of London, is that you can eat around the world without travelling too far.  My favourite is Mexican and I’m a particular fan of “Desperados” on Upper Street in Angel.  In fact, Mexico is my favourite holiday destination, although that may all change when I go to India this year.  I’m really looking forward to Goa, in particular I really want to see some elephants, then next on the list is Dubai.

Every year on my birthday I sit down and make a list of 3 things I wish to achieve before my next birthday – travelling to India is one of them, the other was to become Events Manager at etc.venues Marble Arch.  So far I’m doing well on my list!

I originally wanted to be a TV Presenter, and studied Media at college – however, a three month casual position at etc.venues Avonmouth House led to a full time position as Event Co-Ordinator then Sales Co Ordinator.  I eventually left Avonmouth House and took on the role as Central Sales Co Ordinator,  this involved managing and fielding out group enquiries, making sure the client enquiry was passed on to the most appropriate venue.

However I missed working in events – I like to be the face of a venue, the clients “go to” person.  I don’t like to be anonymous (a throw back to my TV presenter aspirations maybe) and like the interaction with the clients.  The most satisfying thing is when you sit down with the client and work out how their event can run, how we can work together to make their event a success.  This is what I’m looking forward to the most, especially in our new venue  - Marble Arch.  It’s going to be a fantastic new venue and I can’t wait to start welcoming our clients!
