Events Manager at etc.venues Fenchurch Street.
This month we catch up with Mia Vaughan, Events Manager at etc.venues Fenchurch Street. What inspires her, what she likes about her job and what revs her engine!
I live with my boyfriend in Greenhithe in Kent near the Bluewater Shopping centre – I’ve lived around Kent my whole life and really appreciate that it’s nice and rural, yet still very commutable to London. I left Kent for a few years to study a BA Hons in Event Management at Leeds Beckett University and as part of my degree I completed a sandwich year in an Event Production Company in London – I learned a lot about AV which comes in very handy here.
As the Event Manager at etc.venues Fenchurch Street, my days are always busy and very rarely the same. I really enjoy dealing with the clients – it’s great to meet them and hear about their different stories. Before I came to etc.venues, the company I used to work for booked an event at an etc.venue - I looked up the venue on the website and I thought it looked amazing. The imagery looked really vibrant and exciting, I thought it would be a great place to work. So I applied for a job!
My etc.venues life began as Event Co-Ordinator, I was then promoted to Event Manager at etc.venues Monument. I then became part of the team that opened our newest venue - etc.venues Fenchurch Street where I’m now Event Manager.
Outside of work I would describe myself as a massive petrolhead, both my boyfriend and I own modified cars – his is a Nissan 350z and mine is an Audi TT (debaged, lowered, custom diffuser and spoiler extension if you’re interested!). So its always German versus Japan in our garage. We also have three lovely dogs too – Lily, Daisy and Rosie. One of them even had a cameo on Channel 4’s Supervet!
As with the rest of the gang here at etc.venues, I’m a bit of a foodie. One of our favourite places to eat is a small place outside Maidstone called “Who’d a thought it”. It’s a boutique hotel and champagne and oyster bar. It's wonderfully eccentric , filled with the owners collections (there’s a collection of ladies shoes!) and quirky charm. We’re also lucky with where we work – etc.venues Fenchurch Street is in the City so surrounded by great bars and restaurants, but my favourite is Breakfast & Burgers just a few minutes away.
Its great to be part of the etc.venues story, it would be fantastic to expand outside of London. Having lived in Leeds for a while, I know that there isn’t a product like etc.venues there so I think we should open in other UK Cities. And of course, we’d all like to etc.venues open in other glamorous places like Rome, Paris and New York.
