On Sunday, myself and some friends went to the Oxo Tower for their ”Not Afternoon Tea” which is their alternative offer to traditional high tea – you choose a dessert plate from a list of four and it is served with a bespoke cocktail that compliments the items on your chosen plate. The choices which were presented on an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed menu were:
Rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb
All about the puddings
Out of 5 of us dining, 4 went for the Boozy Chocolate and only 1 went for the Tantalizingly Tangy. First to arrive at the table was a square slate covered in fake grass with a small bottle saying ‘drink me’, a red velvet cake saying ‘eat me’ and a coated peanut. The drink was a refreshing non alcoholic Pina Colada which instantly transported me to a hammock in the Caribbean!
We were then served our plate of desserts. For the Boozy Chocolate we were served:
Milk chocolate & Bailey’s tart, rum and raisin flourless chocolate cake, caramel honey & whiskey parfait and a bitter chocolate and Kahlua mousse. The bespoke cocktail was Oxo Brut infused with cacao rum & apricot brandy. The Tantalizingly Tangy dish consisted of:
Lemon tart, blood orange jelly Jaffa cake, pink grapefruit sorbet with mint and a lime curd meringue. The bespoke cocktail was a pink grapefruit and white chocolate liqueur finished with Prosecco.
Following on from the dessert plate we were served a ‘Golden Afternoon cocktail’ which was Hendrick’s Gin served into a cup and saucer with some dry ice creating effect! We were also given a little box of homemade chocolates to take away with us as there is no way you would have any space left for more food!
All in all a very pleasant dining experience for £45 p/head and I would certainly recommend it for those who are looking for an alternative to finger sandwiches & scones.
