I am far off a sushi chef but I will try any new skill . Back in my days in the al a carte restaurant scene I had plenty of attempts at these and over the years in my opinion I’ve eventually managed to pull it off. I am a little slower than your professional sushi chef which takes a minimum of 5 years training and to be honest, most Japanese sushi chefs will have no idea what a Californian roll is anyway as these were invented in America in the 1970’s!
If you can follow this step by step video you could create your own little demonstration at home for friends and family, they can eat the finished product or even get involved and run a little competition, loads of fun!
So here goes a demonstration on how to make the ‘perfect’ Californian roll from an Irish chef. 😉
